| ALFRED REED 1921-2005 Alfred Reed passed away on Saturday afternoon, 17 September. His gift to the world is a body of music that will continue to thrill, charm and delight audiences in virtually every country of the world, as it has done for the last fifty years. His gift to those of us blessed to have known him was a kind and generous spirit that is all too rare. I cannot begin to reach everyone who has known and loved Dr. Reed and his music. May I therefore ask those of you receiving this announcement to forward it to those known to you who would want to be made aware of this most sad event. Clark McAlister Editor in Chief E. F. | Editor's Notes Welcome to the first Kalmus/Masters Music Orchestra Newsletter. We plan on publishing three times per academic/performance year, in September, December, and March. We will also publish a Band Newsletter in October, February, and April, so if you are interested in both genres, you're in luck! This newsletter is intended for conductors of ensembles at a variety of levels, from high school and community groups to collegiate and professional organizations. You will find this a useful resource: New Repertoire (or at least, repertoire that will be new to you or your audiences); information about various works, composers, arrangers; even some conducting tips from the pros. We'll tell you about our newest publications and sometimes offer discounts or other goodies. We’ll provide links to the E.F. Kalmus, Masters Music, and Klavier Records websites, and other sites of interest as well. This, by the way, will probably be the longest “Editor's Notes” you'll get. We'd rather let the newsletter speak for itself. Enjoy! —The Editor |

All of these new releases were written in 1962 and are being offered for the first time in many years. The centennial of Anderson's birth will be celebrated in 2008, so consider these delightful works for your future programming. See The Official Leroy Anderson Website
